Prior to moving to Vermont with his family, Mr. Sonny Ramirez taught at several private liberal arts high schools where he engaged in Socratic-style instruction in the Classical humanities as well as biology. He holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Philosophy & Theology (Franciscan University, Steubenville) and a Masters of Theological Studies in Biotechnology & Ethics (Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies in Marriage & Family Life, DC). To earn a Masters of Philosophy from Franciscan University, he is currently writing a thesis on: "The role of religion and beauty in Parmenides of Elea's proto-metaphysical insight."
By 10 years of age, Mr. Ramirez had been orphaned, homeless, and in foster homes. Around 12 years of age, he began the arduous journey of conversion to a Classical manner of living, after a truck driver introduced him to Aristotle's "first philosophy" and after he read "The Secret of the Rosary" by Saint Louis de Montfort. Two decades later, he met his lovely wife while they were both standing in line at a parish Lenten fish fry. Their very first conversation revolved around her earnest question: "But what does a philosopher do?" Today, as a husband and father engaged in 'the examined life,' he looks to collaborate with parents and colleagues who appreciate that the essence of fatherhood and motherhood entails a grand, harmonious arrangement that retains the same ascertainable order in every generation.
Regarding hobbies and leisure, his favorite pastime is spent with his family. To the delight of his children, he recently took up playing the medieval harp and vielle. He has high hopes of creating an early-medieval troubadour band that can play the "Cantigas de Santa Maria," which is a list of songs attributed to Alfonso X of Castile, (a 13th century king who famously created a new genre of secular music in honor of the Virgin Mary). Mr. Ramirez is developing a hobby podcast geared towards a non-religious audience entitled "Beyond Enlightenment." The aim of this project is "to pursue good reason to live beyond the dehumanizing restraints of modern Protagorean culture." As a former cross-country athlete, he enjoys long runs on scenic trails.
